What started in 2016 as Cookeville’s first brewery has grown into a local favorite for craft beer and community. At Red Silo Brewing Company, everything is brewed right here. No guest taps, just a rotating lineup of small-batch beers made to be shared. Add in live music, trivia nights, food trucks, and a patio made for slowing down, and you’ve got a place where there’s always something worth raising a glass to.
Red Silo was born from a simple neighborly bond. When Mark Van der Bleek(left) and Jim Helton(right) moved three doors apart in 2006, they quickly discovered a shared love of craft beer. Jim had been homebrewing since 1999, and Mark, a chemical engineer, was immediately hooked. By 2010, they were brewing together out of Mark’s basement.
A breakthrough moment came in 2014, when they poured at the PBS Blues and Brews event to an overwhelmingly positive response. That encouragement set them on the path to making Red Silo a reality. After navigating local ordinances and sourcing a professional brewing system, Red Silo officially opened in September 2016 — becoming the first tasting room in Cookeville and Putnam County.
The taproom you see today is the result of years of tireless work, with no small thanks to their wives, Julie and Karen, whose vision shaped the warm, inviting atmosphere inside the Silo.
Red Silo has been named top brewer at the Nashville Predators Craft Beer Festival three times (2018, 2019, and 2022), and remains deeply committed to the community through ongoing partnerships with Habitat for Humanity, local animal shelters, school supply drives, and more.
We’re proud to call Cookeville’s Westside home- and we’re just getting started.
